Press Brake - Sheer Operator
Job Description
SME Steel, is a fabricator and erector of steel structures, based out of West Jordan, Utah. SME has just been awarded a major portion of the new Inglewood California stadium, Googleplex, the Spruce Goose Hanger Google project and the Chase Arena in San Francisco (Golden State Warriors new home). SME is an AISC certified structural and miscellaneous metals fabricator. This position is full time and is the result of increasing sales and expanding fabrication capabilities. Successful candidates must be drug free and experienced press brake - sheer operators
Job
Summary: The press brake - sheer operator produce parts from metal or other materials using a press brake, a computer numeric controlled (CNC) piece of equipment that makes precision bends, punches, or cuts into material. These parts are used in our structural steel operations. They lay out dimensions by following fabrication blue prints, programing brakes and sheers to produce steel parts.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
1. Analyzes shop drawings and cut list to plan layout and program machines.
2. Responsible for inputting required measurement information for each new job or project.
3. Performs cuts or works the part or piece using machine or cutting torch.
4. Responsible for quality of finished material. Removes visual imperfections, burrs, or rough spots using portable grinder, hand file or chipping hammer.
5. Handles the movement of raw and finished materials in and out of work stations using chain rigging, overhead jib crane, material conveyor, forklift or by hand.
6. Closely inspects all work materials and equipment to identify cause of errors, problems and defects.
7. Maintain an orderly and clean work station.

Qualifications:
1. High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
2. Two years previous brake press or sheer operation.
3. Must have thorough understanding of machine operation and safety procedures. Maintain proper personal protection requirements and follow SME shop procedures.
4. Must have knowledge of computer and is able to convert fractions into decimals.
5. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
6. Must be able to maintain a low error or rejection rate.
7. Capable to lift from 50 to 75 pounds.
8. Must be able to read and understand shop fabrication drawings.
9. Must be able to perform dimensional verification as per drawings and blueprints.
