Structural and Miscellaneous Detailers, Checkers
Job Description
SME Steel is one of the largest fabricators/erectors in the western United States. We are an AISC certified structural and miscellaneous metals fabricator. Our headquarters location is West Jordan, Utah, with satellite locations in Henderson, Nevada, Phoenix, Arizona and Pocatello, Idaho. We have a full-service design and detailing department and our preferred projects are those that use the design-build concept. We have detailed many familiar buildings, stadiums and other structures throughout the western states, especially many of the casinos and attractions in the Las Vegas area. With projects like Facebook, Apple, Google, Levi Stadium and others, we are seeking to expand our detailing department and are looking for qualified sds2 cad checkers and detailers. Positions are available for both structural and miscellaneous steel detailers (entry level through checker positions).
Responsibilities
The detailer and checker positions are responsible for preparation of erection and shop drawings and bill of materials for specific projects using autoCAD-based software (principally SDS2). These drawings must comply with the requirements of design drawings, all AISC and AWS standards and SME protocols.
Qualifications
Checkers: Successful candidates will work in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision and must be:
proficient with SDS2
able to read & interpret contract documents
experienced in creating accurate shop and field drawings
able to value engineer and design and/or simplify structural & miscellaneous components to company detailing standards
able to produce and complete work to achieve company & customer deadlines
must have knowledge of AISC, AWS, IBC and other applicable standards and codes
Other Detailing Positions:
computer aided drafting experience with 2D modeling or 3D drafting programs (Tekla, AutoCAD, Revit)
experience with contract documents, structural and architectural drawings
understand basic shop, erection practices & AWS welding procedures
write and interpret RFIs
good organizational skills and excellent communication skills
